Akitsiraq Law School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Akitsiraq Law School was a program of the Faculty of Law at the University of Victoria, in partnership with Nunavut Arctic College. It was designed to help increase the number of lawyers in Canada's north, particularly the territory of Nunavut, Canada.

The program taught a modified law curriculum of the University of Victoria in Iqaluit.

11 people graduated from the program, bringing Nunavut's total number of Inuit lawyers up to 12. Graduates of the program received a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Victoria. It was designed as a one time program, although there is talk of running it again.
