Akira Murata

Akira Murata (村田昭 Murata Showa) was born on March 25, 1921 in Higashiyama, Kyoto.

In 1944, founded Murata Manufacturing Co., in Kyoto. In 1950, he founded Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and assumed the position of President/Statutory Representative Director.

Mr. Akira Murata continued to lead the company until assuming the position of Chairman/Statutory Representative Director in 1991 and since 1995 held the position of Honorary Chairman.

Among the many achievements of his distinguished career, Mr. Akira Murata was honored in 1980 with the Medal with Blue Ribbon of Japan (Ranju Hosho). In 1986, he was honored with the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany First Class (Bundesverdienstkreuz Erster Klasse). He was further honored in 1993 with the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Star of Japan (Kun-ni-to Zuihosho).

Mr. Akira Murata passed away after succumbing to pneumonia, at 9:20 a.m., February 3, 2006, at the Kyoto Second Redcross Hospital. He was 84 years old.
