Akie Abe (安倍昭恵 Abe Akie?, born June 10, 1962) is the wife of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and current First Lady of Japan.
She is the first Japanese First Lady in over 5 years, as former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi was not married. Born Akie Matsuzaki (松崎昭恵 Matsuzaki Akie), Abe is regarded as a socialite. She is from a wealthy Japanese family; her father is the former president of Morinaga & Co., one of Japan's largest confectionery companies. She was educated at a Roman Catholic school, Sacred Heart Senmon Gakko (聖心女子専門学校 Seishin Joshi Gakuin Senmon Gakkō) [1], and a Roman Catholic university, University of the Sacred Heart.
Abe later worked for Dentsu Inc., the world's largest advertising agency brand, before marrying Shinzo Abe in 1987.
In the 1990s, Abe worked as a radio disc jockey in her husband's hometown of Shimonoseki.[1] The couple has no children. According to a South Korean newspaper, she is a fan of Korean culture and Japan's Korean Wave phenomenon, including South Korean soap opera star, Park Yong-ha.[1]
