Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP, Hindi for 'All-India Students' Council'), is a youth political group drawing its inspiration from the nationalist Indian Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and now linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party. The ABVP was founded in 1948 and formally registered on July 9, 1949. The group refers to itself as the "World's Largest Student Organisation," claiming 1,029,646 members as of the 2000-2001 school year.
