Akeake
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Akeake is the Maori name of at least three New Zealand species of tree:
- Dodonaea viscosa
- Olearia traversi
- Olearia avicenniaefolia
This is less confusing than it appears as the name goes back to pre-European times when it was used for specifically for trees growing in different areas of New Zealand; areas occupied by different tribes or Iwi. In post-European times it is used most frequently, but not exclusively, for Dodonaea viscosa.
