Airwaves (gum)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Airwaves is a brand of chewing gum produced by the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company and sold primarily in Europe and East Asia. The brand is marketed for its intense flavour similar to the effect one would get from the consumption of cough drops (which is also sold by Wrigley's). This intensity of flavour is obtained by including Eucalyptus and Menthol in the sugar coating of the tablets of gum. This menthol and eucalyptus combination is widely used in medicated sweets to clear the head and nasal passages tend to reduce the symptoms of nasal congestions and colds
Airwaves comes in four flavours: Eucalyptus and Menthol (the blue packets), Blackcurrant and Vitamin C (the purple packets), Cherry (the red packets), Grapefruit and Menthol (the pink packets), Herbal (the light green packets) and the newly added Black Mint (Black Packet). The honey and lemon flavour has been discontinued (but is still sold in many Asian countries) along with the spicy cocktail flavour.
Recently, a new kind of Airwaves was produced, Airwaves Active. Airwaves Active contains the stimulant Guarana, which acts like caffiene. The advert used to convince the people to buy it involved an alien who had just landed on Earth, then the human commander telling the alien to "make itself at home". Then, the alien takes a packet of Airwaves Active from the commander's coat pocket (from the front), and tries one of the pieces. Then the alien sees visions of what its future would be like if it made itself at home on Earth. When the vision ends, the alien realised the visions, and in turn retreated (went back into the UFO and left the planet). The ad ends with the UFO leaving Earth, while an announcer was saying "Come to your senses. New Airwaves Active with Guarana". This advert was recently modified, the announcer rather than saying the same thing, instead said, "Come to your senses with Airwaves sugarfree gum".
They were also included in Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos theory several times, with the main protagonist eating from a clearly displayed pack in the first mission cutscene, and cleary visible next to a radio in another cutscene.
