Airport City Shuffle

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Perth’s highly regarded indie-rock group, Airport City Shuffle, have developed a reputation as a solid outfit on their home turf, with their spontaneous high-energy live performances, and carefully crafted releases (Airport City Shuffle 2007).

Simon Sieradzki, who essentially is Airport City Shuffle, produces the records playing many of the instruments himself, with Michael Lush, Dan Grant & Johnny joining him in the live setting. He composes gorgeously off-kilter anthems, while combining an innate sense of melody with a sharply contemporary edge (Ibid).

Airport City Shuffle have performed at outdoor festivals and in a variety of music venues around Australia. Venues ranging from the back of a seedy tattoo parlour to grand old theatres, or downstairs at a busy back alley bar to the vacated Railway Workshops in Midland, with its dusty old trains and tracks, discarded tools, fallen debris and all (Ibid).

Their current single It’s All The Same To Me was released through Love Is My Velocity on a split 7” vinyl record, which also features The Tucker B’s song Wow. The record is the second in a series of strictly limited edition double A sides that Love Is My Velocity will be releasing for some of the best Australian indie bands (Ibid).

The single was also picked up recently by Nokia UK, who launched the Music Recommenders program, with assistance from top “indie-music” record stores in New York, London, Melbourne and Tokyo. These stores have chosen the best current indie stuff to release. Airport City Shuffle and other bands chosen, such as Japanther, TV on the Radio, Sonic Youth, Isobel Cambell, Mick Harvey and The Drones, have each released a single through the new Nokia Recommenders music site. (Nokia Music Recommenders 2007).

In the live setting, this last year Airport City Shuffle supported US touring bands Pretty Girls Make Graves and The Gossip. They’ve also cemented their place in the local indie firmament by playing at In The Pines, a legendary outdoor festival held in Perth by RTRFM, which attracts about 3000 punters annually and has in the past, showcased performances by many of Perth’s top bands (Airport City Shuffle 2007). Airport City Shuffle performed shows in Melbourne and Sydney with The Tucker B’s last year, and headed east again last January for a more comprehensive national tour, with shows in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and home town Perth (Ibid).
