Air suction valve
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An air suction valve is an subsystem used to reduce emissions by oxidizing CO and HC in exhaust gasses.
To cutoff secondary air during deceleration.because if air is admitted during deceleration causes afterburn
WORKING PRINCIPLE
When exhaust valve is open, the pressure in the exhaust manifold is higher than atmospheric pressure. The exhaust manifold is in such a way that produced a positive and negative pulses during the operation of the cycle by designing it as a diffuser.
Reed system consists of a reed valve which is a one way valve. The SAV valve have three openings. One is connected to manifold vacuum, other is connected to exhaust pipe and the third is open to atmosphere.
when a negative pulse induced in the exhaust, air from atmosphere enters to the exhaust manifold through reed valve.
Air cut valve system
This system consists of a spring-loaded diaphragm, and a shaft which is attached to the bottom of it. A manifold vacuum is applied over diaphragm where the shaft end is towards the opening of the atmosphere.
During deceleration engine vacuum soots up higher. This vacuum acts against the spring and push the shaft downards, thereby block the opening through which atmospheric air is passed to the exhaust.
Though there is negative pulse during deceleration, the manifold vacuum cut off the air to the exhaust manifold by blocking the way.
