Aiono Nonumalo Sofara

Aiono Nonumalo Sofara is a Former Member of Parliament (HRPP & SNDP) in Samoa.
He became Speaker of the National Legislature when the Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) first came into power. Later he was expelled from the HRPP by Tofilau Eti Alesana when it Tofilau learnt that Nonumalo and another member were planning an internal leadership challenge. Following this, Nonumalo joined the SNDP. He was also a strong advocate against the introduction of Universal Suffrage, and actively sought to have the act repealed.
Aiono was married to the late Eni Sofara, sister of two other Samoan parlimentarians, Laulu Fetauimalemau Mata'afa and Matatumua Maimoana.
