Ain't It a Shame

"Ain't It a Shame," or "Ain't It a Shame to Go Fishin'," is an American folk song. It has been recorded by Lead Belly and Nirvana, among others.

[edit] Nirvana's version

An electric version of "Ain't It a Shame" was recorded by members of the American rock bands Nirvana and the Screaming Trees in Seattle in August 1989. Featuring Nirvana's Kurt Cobain on vocals, Krist Novoselic on bass and backing vocals, and the Screaming Trees' Mark Lanegan on guitar and Mark Pickerel on drums, it was recorded for a planned Leadbelly tribute album, but the project was ultimately abandoned, and the song was not released until the 2004 Nirvana box set, With the Lights Out. The makeshift band, tentatively called the Jury, also recorded versions of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" and "Grey Goose," and Cobain recorded a solo rendition of "They Hung Him on a Cross."
