Ailbhe

Saint Ailbhe was an early Irish bishop, founder of the Diocese of Emly (then called Imlech).

He is sometimes said to be one of four bishops to have preceded Saint Patrick in Ireland (See also Saints Ciaran, Declan, and Ibar). However, he is generally thought to have lived in the early 6th century. His feast day is September 12.


Ailbhe Is now a girls name in modern ireland and is no longer used as a male name. The male form is more commonly now Ailbe
