[edit] Two Articles in need of your attention
There are two entries at Wikipedia, which have falsely created -- they are Turco-Persian and Turko-Persian Tradition. Both entries are factitious. I have requested the entries to be deleted. My reasons are:
- The term Turko-Persian Tradition (or Turco-Persian) does not exists academically and it is a factitious entry! Check the Encyclopaedia Iranica to confirm -- The correct name for that culture is the Persianate culture not the "Turko-Persian". Turkophones (mostly of mixed race and Persianized in culture) only spoke in Turkic dialects and were in the military. That is not enough participation in creating and forming the culture to deserve the name "Turko-Persian Tradition" – This is misinformation. All the elements in that area, which have to do with tradition and culture, were drawn from the Iranian culture (Persian, Kurdish, Azari, Baluchi, Tajik, Luri, Gilaki, Talishi, Mazandarani, etc.), and the Islamic faith, not much Turkic elements (like shamanism, yurts etc.) were incorporated in. That is what makes the name "Turko-Persian" an imaginary one and therefore the entry should be deleted.
Any contributions would greatly appreciate – please add your comments, whether you agree with the deletion, or otherwise to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Turco-Persian as well as Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Turko-Persian Tradition. Bā Sepās Surena 02:58, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re:Turco-Persian
I tried to vote for a delete but the discussion was closed before I could. Frankly I think the fact that the only hits on Google for Turco-Persian are about a rug company, is enough to delete the article. Thanks User:Aidepikiwym 22:22, 17 January 2007 (UTC) -- (Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Surena")
- Dear Aidepikiwym - Unfortunately few hours after the request for deletion, the notice was removed (Wikipedia Democratic Style!) -- Unfortunately Wikipedia is facilitating and assisting some elements here to falsify history. I believe the problem rests with the administrative side of Wikipedia. Many of the administrators here are not educated enough to distinguish between falsification and conveying facts –for instance the notice was removed by one the admins who is in college – for a college boy it is immensely difficult to comprehend what is fabrication, or otherwise, since he is not educated enough – subsequently this undermines Wikipedia as an accurate source of information! – I’m just hoping people are vigilant enough, to address the issue. [edit] Sources
Hey Aidepikiwym, thanks for your message. Yes, in general, Google is my number one place to go looking for sources. However, my particular interests are sports biographies and I have a number of books that I use in order to provide verifiability to particular articles. A good guide to learning what should and shouldn't be used to verify an article is WP:RS, the policy on reliable sources. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to discuss this or anything else. The Rambling Man 10:21, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your questions
Hey,
You asked me a couple more questions!
1. How do you find images to upload if you wanted to add them to an article? I mean I know how to find picture but how can you tell if it's ok to use, as in not copyrighted?
- Wow, that's a big one. I've only ever used images that I know are fair use or are images I've created myself. The policy is here but, in general, the most common way of getting images deleted after upload is to not provide a suitable source or licence for them. Typically unless you are 100% clear on the source and the licencing of an image, you shouldn't use it on WP. It's difficult but then WP will end up getting shut down if it breaches copyright laws.
2. How do you join a "WikiProject?" Are there any qualifications you must have?
- There are no joining requirements for any Wikiproject (as far as I know!) so you should just go ahead and become part of anything you're interested in. Add your name to the list of participants (if they have one), add an appropriate userbox to your user page (if you like) and get in there.... Enjoy!
- Hope that helps. Let me know if you need any more info! The Rambling Man 22:57, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Manual reversion
Hey, it's slow, but the only way to do it without pop-ups or WP:VPRF and all that jazz, go to the history tab for an article, select the date/time of the version of the article without the vandalism (or the version you wish to revert to for whatever reason), click on it, edit it (you'll see a warning) and then save it with a suitable edit summary like reverting vandalism. Job done. The Rambling Man 23:04, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
