[edit] Licensing

Public domain
This image is in the public domain in the United States. In most cases, this means that it was first published in the United States prior to January 1, 1923 (see the PD-US talk page for more cases). Its copyright has also expired in those countries with a copyright term of life of the author plus 50 years.

Copyright has expired; image created prior to WWI

Created before 1923 is not enough - it has to have been published before 1923. Haukur 08:39, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

I find it hard to believe an electronic image was created and/or published before 1923.

As long as it was put down on any medium it is copyrighted. That is all that is required.
