The Institute was established at the Queensland University of Technology in 1993. Comprising a consortium of four educational institutions: Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Monash University, Queensland University of Technology and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, the institute acts as an independent advisory service to public and private sector organisations through research and training in fields relating to housing and urban studies in Australia[1].
[edit] Objectives
The institute aims to address the issues on national housing and related urban outcomes through the creation and dissemination of knowledge in housing markets, housing policy and programs, and the urban environment in cities, towns and regions. Broadly, the objectives are to:
- Link quality research and the development of ideas with policy development, program evaluation and project development in the public and private sectors.
- Become a leader in its field assisting policy makers at all levels in identifying trends, establishing possible solutions and drawing together the best information and understanding within Australia whilst drawing upon international experience.
