The Samand is bult on the Peugeot 405 platform, using the "XU7JPK" and "XU7JP/L3", among other engines. The Peugeot 405 is still in production in Iran, along with a facelifted version, the Peugeot Pars. IranKhodro's relationship with Peugeot with the French company Peugeot began when when they supplied Peugeot 504 engines drivetrains for some models of the previous Iranian Paykan, which was based on the Hillman Hunter.
