Ahmet Okan

Ahmet Okan a Turkish Cypriot was born in 1952 in Nicosia. He finished his secondary education in Cyprus and continued his higher education later on in Turkey. But there he got involved in student youth organizations, so he had to drop out of school.
He worked later on in the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in political organizations such as the Revolutionary Youth Organisation (DGD), and the Cumhuriyetci Turk Partisi (CTP) / Republican Turkish Party. He later worked in various artist organizations such as the Cagdas Sanatcilar Dernegi (Contemporary Artists Association), the Turkish Cypriot Journalists Association, and the Cyprus Turkish Writers Association of Music Artists.
His most famous work of poetry is "Adaliyiz Maviye" (1986). Apart from poetry he also writes lyrics, and he has composed many songs. His work with Acar Akalın, the singer and guitarist, has become very popular in Turkey and Northern Cyprus.
