AHDS Visual Arts

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

AHDS Visual Arts is part of the free UK educational service, the Arts and Humanities Data Service. It collects, preserves and provides online access to digital visual arts resources that are free for use in research, learning and teaching. The resources cover the full range of academic subject areas across the visual arts, including painting, design, architecture, sculpture, crafts, fashion, art history, printmaking and increasingly, digital media. The material consists primarily of digital images, but also includes websites, text-based datasets and databases, moving images and sound files, web essays, case studies, primary research output and aggregate teaching and learning resources. To date, around 70,000 digital images are currently available via the AHDS Visual Arts catalogue at: http://www.visualarts.ahds.ac.uk

AHDS Visual Arts also provides a free advice service for the preservation, digitisation or dissemination of educational visual arts resources. Advice is based on established good practice to help maximise the long term potential of resources.

AHDS Visual Arts is based at the Farnham Campus of the University College for the Creative Arts at Canterbury, Epsom, Farnham, Maidstone and Rochester and is one of five Centres, which together with an Executive, make up the Arts and Humanities Data Service (AHDS). The AHDS and AHDS Visual Arts are funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC).
