From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It seems some of the images I have uploaded for a biography of the artist Edmund Blampied have been marked for deletion because they are OR and CV. They have been inserted within the entry so are not orphans. When I uploaded them I gave them a wrong licence, which I have since changed to FAL, Free Art Licence. This seems the most appropriate, but I may be wrong, so any guidance would be appreciated.

I have been given permission from the Estate of Edmund Blampied to use the images, and they have provided the photograph of the artist. I can provide a postal address if someone would like to check my permissions.

This is my first submission to Wikipedia and I would appreciate helpful support while I find my way around.

Mèrcie bein des fais pouor l'articl'ye sus Bliampid! The images may well be problematic, though. Unless the Blampied estate has had a change of heart recently, I'd be surprised if they really intended to permit distribution and commercial use under the Free Art license. Copyright works that are restricted to use on Wikipedia are currently deprecated and liable to deletion (see Template:Copyrighted). But if the permissions from the copyright owners are compatible with Wikipedia requirements, it might be an idea to quote the text of the permissions on the relevant image description pages. (BTW, IANAL!) Man vyi 18:01, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Would the person who added the reference please add the date of publication and publisher, so that someone could obtain the document. If it is about Blampied, then it could me moved to the bibliography. Ah1954

[edit] Stubs

Hi - you seem to misunderstand how to mark articles as stubs. For some reason you are copying and pasting a section of Wikipedia:Stub relating to the creation of new stub templates, rather than actually adding a stub template to the article. To mark an article as a stub, simply add the relevant template from the list at WP:WSS/ST - for example {{Food-stub}} or {{Artist-stub}} (or, if this is too long a list to look through, simply add {{stub}}). Please don't copy and paste the "how to" example from WP:STUB, otherwise the stubs will be lost in a non-existent category called Cat:B stubs (which is what happened with Salomon van Abbé and Ernest Stephen Lumsden!) Grutness...wha? 13:23, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Could you upload the image to wikimedia commons, so that we can use it on an article on her in the Bangla wikipedia (http://bn.wikipedia.org )? Also, do you speak Bangla? if you do, can you please start an article there as well? Thanks. --Ragib 21:28, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

I will upload the photograph as you ask. Sorry I don't speak Bangla but someone is very welcome to translate the article. Regards --Ah1954

Edit away! (And you still can't believe everything you read in the newspapers...) Man vyi 17:49, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

OrphanBot is on a bit of a rampage, ignoring fair use rationales all over the place, judging by reaction. I have removed the delete template, added a PD template to flag up your PD justification and laid out an exposition of what I understand to be your reasoning on the image talk page. Please amend as necessary if I have mis-stated your case. Man vyi 07:38, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
You could, if that is your claim, use the PD-stamp template to place in Category:Public domain stamp images. I'd be dubious, personally, that the Blampied estate didn't claim copyright in the artwork, though. Man vyi 08:20, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:EBOccupStamps1.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:EBOccupStamps1.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz Saalfeld (Talk) 14:29, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
