"Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" was the third single off of Aaliyah's debut album of the same name. In 1995, around the time that the music video for "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" was released, a rumor surfaced that 15-year-old Aaliyah and 27-year-old R. Kelly had secretly married. Both camps initially denied the rumor, but VIBE magazine magazine published a copy of their marriage license, which showed that Aaliyah's age had been falsely listed as eighteen. Some claim that this is the reason for the song's minor success, peaking at #75 on the US Billboard Hot 100 & #35 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks charts. The marriage was annulled a few months later.
