From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

After Hours Formalwear is a clothier business that specializes in the renting and selling of formal wear for men, especially tuxedos and business suits. It is specifically popular for weddings and school dances like prom, homecoming, and winter formal. They have a wide variety of tuxedos available for rent to include Tommy Hilfiger and Liz Claiborne, both which are exclusive to After Hours. For purchase, they also carry styles by Kenneth Cole, Joseph Abboud, Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein, and again, Hilfiger and Claiborne. With one of the largest selections of accessories, they offer over 75 styles and colors of vests and ties, which coordinate with those from David's Bridal.

After Hours also specializes in Black Tie and social events including Charity Dinners/Balls, Academy Awards, Award Dinners, and Conventions. They also carry a full line of career apparel for both men and women in occupations requiring formal attire. These include catering services, valet services, casinos, and restaurants. This line of apparel is also affordable for school bands and choruses.

Originally known as Mitchell's Formalwear and founded in 1946, After Hours was the result of the acquisition by Mitchell's of fellow clothiers Small's and Tuxedo World in the late 1990s, and has since acquired and assimilated several other chains in the United States. After Hours was acquired by May Department Stores in 2001, and became a part of Federated Department Stores following that company's buyout of May in 2005. It operates over 450 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia.

Stores with the largest selection of formalwear for purchase in Southern California include Santa Monica, Fashion Valley, Studio City, and Mission Viejo. (Nationwide areas to be updated)

On November 17, 2006, After Hours Formalwear was sold to Men's Wearhouse. [1]
