[edit] Song information

"Afrodisiac" was one of the first songs Brandy, longtime contributors Kenisha and Kenneth Pratt, and producer Timbaland worked on in the Hit Factory Criteria recording studios in Miami, Florida. In this pop driven, electro dance influenced song, Brandy sings about the addicted passion she feels for a special man, whom she declares her aphrodisiac, singing lines such as, "you're the only one I'm needin', when I go I'll come back, 'cause there is no way I'm leavin ...".

"Afrodisiac" was one of three tracks that had leaked a half year before the official release date, a fact, which made it an early candidate to become the album's lead single. When "Talk About Our Love" was picked as first single, Timbaland protested the decision in several magazine interviews. Even Brandy herelf proclaimed that the album's single choice was finalized by manager Benny Medina and the heads of Atlantic Records, while the singer herself had favoured the title track to lead the album.

The music video for "Afrodisiac" was directed by newcomer Matthew Rolston. In contrast to most of Brandy's previous videos, it is relatively plotless, focusing on dance choreographies and designs instead of a definite storyline. More often than not, the sets are influenced by the element water, showing Brandy as dancer with wet hair and clothes in an ankledeep basin, in a golden swimsuit under the shower, or in front of water reflecting walls. The video was released as a DVD Single in the UK.

Even though Brandy didn't perform the single specifically during official promo appearances and the video received minor only airplay, "Afrodisiac" was a comparative big chart success. While climbing to the top of the European Black Music (Airplay) Charts, the single peaked at #1 in South Africa, #9 in China, #11 in the UK and #22 in Ireland, also reaching the Top 40 in Switzerland, France, and Australia.
