AFL Teamcoach is a popular Australian rules football-themed collectible card game. More than 2.2 million people play it in all states and territories except NSW. The series started since 2001, and is now up to the 2006 series

There are seven game variations
[edit] Top team
The main focus of the game. Players choose their best twenty-two, but they must own the cards. Cards are needed to win prizes; first to third place win an exclusive Blue star set, fourth to eighth win a framed set of the player's club's cards.

This old format was used in 2001-2002. You could win a Blueset If you got the best player in each position. This was scrapped after the 2002 season, this was reintroduced in 2007.

[edit] Rock, Paper, Scissors
A mini game which requried 6 pre-2006 cards (3 cards x 2) with a strength of one card and a weakness of another; rules were similar to Paper-Scissors-Rock. Could be played for fun or for keeps.

Wildcards first appeared in 2004
There are 16 Star Wildcards and 16 B&F Wildcards, Star Wildcards can turn anyone team card into a gold while a B&F card does the same except it's for a Silver

Never released as it was too complicated. This teamcoach had certin limits, like the use of cards for different rounds, Doubles in this game were actally very useful as the more you had of one player, the more rounds you can use that player. They came in 6 variations, making a total of 600 cards.
Some of the tests have found the markets.
The cards had corners, had the total number of game points, the average and the play rate.

The face of 2001 was Wayne Carey
2001 was the only year where some cards had to be got by packs, such as the Ingerson Siliver and Phil Matera Gold, Found in the Starter packs.
2001 cards were very similar to the 2000 cards, instead of a random round number allocation, highs and lows were introduced, three of each kind. Rather then 6 types of card, there was the Common, Siliver and Gold system as used until 2006.

The face for 2002 was Shane Crawford
This was the first year where the rounded edges cards was made. Some extra stats were included on the card, like average Kicks, handballs, goals ect. This was the only year where the Portrit card was Gold rather then Silver.

2003 was when the first expansion happened, there were now 150 cards, it also saw the drop of the 4 star team game. A new website was released for 2003.

A thunderbolt design was used for this year in celebration of Port's first premiership the previous year.

The High and Low system was dropped, and marks went up to 3 for all positions.

2007 saw an expansion to the number of player to 200. This is the first year where there are no Portrit Silvers. 2007 also saw the reintrodution of the 4 star team game.
[edit] Promotion
Subway Restaurants released a promotional Subway Wildcard Series in early 2005, releasing one star from each club.
Their television advertising campaign was a rather forgettable one for Nick Riewoldt. He and a kid trading their Teamcoach cards. This was after Nick controverisially broke his arm in Round 1 of 2005 against the Brisbane Lions.
The first TV ads on Teamcoach came in 2005.
