[edit] History

The airline began in 1960 as an air taxi company based at La Paz in Baja California Sur and flying Cessna twins and Beechcraft18's. By the early 1980s Douglas DC-3's were added to the fleet as domestic charters grew. Scheduled services began in the June 1982 between La Paz, Tijuana and Hermosillo using Convair 340 twins. By 1995 the airline fleet was being upgraded to all-jet types with Douglas DC-9-14/15 jets and the longer Douglas DC-9-32s comprising the fleet.

[edit] Recent events

On the afternoon of Sunday, April 2, 2006, Aero California suspended operations. [1] Reasons surmised ranged from a regulatory enforcement action by the Mexican government over safety issues, to concerns over the airline's financial position. [2]

On July 26, 2006 Aero California restarted operations. By August 11th they already resume some of their routes, like Mazatlán, Colima, Culiacán, Durango, Guadalajara, Hermosillo, La Paz, Los Mochis, Ciudad de México, Monterrey, Puebla, Tepic and Tijuana,13 over 28 before the suspension, and only 10 of their 30 DC-9 will be in service. The plan for the fleet will be 15 DC-9 -30.

Aero California has announced a new website and a 800 line to sell tickets, and claims that they will be soon purchasing new jets.
