Aegisub is a general-purpose SubStation Alpha subtitle editor created to help in many aspects of typesetting by correcting flawed features found in the Medusa Subtitling Station and adding many features that it lacks. The first public release was announced on November 4, 2005 as v1.00 beta. The last SVN builds of the program are considered to be stable, and it is expected to soon leave the "beta" stage.

As of version 1.07, Aegisub is under the 3-clause BSD license.
