Record of Lodoss War: Advent of Cardice (known simply as Record of Lodoss War on the US and EU releases) is a Diablo-style RPG based on the anime series of the same name. Essentially accepted as a sequel, this action-oriented RPG has become somewhat of a cult classic for Dreamcast owners, and is relatively difficult to find. It is also the only Lodoss-based video game to be released outside of Japan.

In 2005, Neverland's Shining Force Neo, the spiritual sequel to Record of Lodoss War, was released for the PS2.

[edit] Story

The game starts out with the great wizard Wart, as he is resurrecting a long-dead hero (whom the player controls). His mission is to seek out and destroy the evil Goddess Cardice.

[edit] Gameplay

The gameplay in Lodoss closely follows that of the Diablo games in that the player character travels an expansive world, destroying monsters and gaining items. Although not point-and-click, the game is very similar in looks and numerous aspects, such as the system in which the player equips armor and weapons.

One notable feature of the game is the blacksmith system, in which the player can refine weapons and armor, and give them names as well.

Throughout the game, the player will meet several characters from the anime series, and be able to interact and fight along side many of them.
