[edit] Hallo! Help needed

I was looking around for native Afrikaans speakers to recruit, and I cam across you. So I was wondering if you could help me and one or two other people work on a wikibook that teaches people afrikaans. I'm still learning it myself, so it's pretty tough to do sometimes. I hope you help! Dankie! íslenskur fellibylur #12 (samtal) 21:19, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Can i help?--207.69.137.26 05:54, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

hi

[edit] Jesus

I recently found that the Jesus article on Wikipedia is the first item that comes up when you search for "Jesus" on the world’s most widely used search engine, Google.

Please edit the Jesus article to make it an accurate and excellent representation of Him.

The Jesus article may be a person’s first impression of Jesus. It would be nice if their first impression was from a Christian or the Bible, but for so many in these new days it probably comes from the Internet. Watch the Jesus page to keep it focused on Him. Thanks a lot.

Also, watch out to follow Wikipedia's Policies and guidelines. It is especially hard for the Three-revert rule and the Neutral point of view policy to be followed because of the nature of the article, but please follow these policies along with citing sources so that the article does not get locked from editing and can't be improved further. Thanks again. Scifiintel 16:56, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

I knew you were a Christian because your user page is in the Christian category. Scifiintel 18:06, 3 January 2007 (UTC) Thanks a lot for the support.Scifiintel 19:06, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] We might be misunderstanding

  • Science does not give proof of anything. If you want proof, go to logic or mathematics, not science.
  • Science does not give truth or look for truth. Science only looks for efficient explanations. That is, science seeks the more parsimonious explanations that produce predictions that agree with the observations, either from the field or the laboratory (empirical results).
  • Science is not about finding the facts, except for the measurements. The measurements are the facts, and even those have error bars.
  • Scientific theories are not true in the conventional sense of the word true. They are only provisionally accepted until something better comes along. And there are usually exceptions to any theory. They are only accepted because it would be perverse not to.

And so on and so forth. Do we agree?--Filll 21:08, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

I also corrected the item on my home page about the supernatural.--Filll 21:09, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Also science is just a method for finding things out. Sometimes the word science is used to describe the things that are found out using the scientific method. --Filll 21:11, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Myth

Whoa, calm down. Lots of people believe in myths. Nothing wrong with it. Easter bunny. Santa claus. Tooth fairy. No harm done. They are myths however, right? This is an encyclopedia, right? Just because 1/3 of the US population think they have been abducted by space aliens does not make it true. It is still...well I dont know what to call it, but we should not claim it is true in an encyclopedia.--Filll 22:13, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Generalizations

Which generalizations?--Filll 19:15, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I'm fact-based. What generalizations? Orangemarlin 19:23, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps you misunderstand. I, and Orangemarlin as well are not against religion or the religious, or a belief in God (Orangemarlin is even respectful enough to write it as G_d, the correct way if we follow the form of Hebrew the old testament was written in). What we are a bit uncomfortable with is the ultraright wing conservative Christian fundamentalists who believe some or all of the following:

  • biblical literalism (in particular, the interpretation adopted by their particular sect, which just happens to disagree with 99% of the other sects out there)
  • biblical inerrancy the complete denial of the contradictions and errors that have been revealed in thousands of years of scholarship
  • calling Jews evil and Jesus-killers, devils etc (and maybe should be punished...)
  • claiming Catholics are not Christian
  • Claiming Methodists, Presbyterians, and all mainstream protestant sects etc are all non Christian
  • claiming the bible orders you to kill all homosexuals and that somehow the US is an evil nation for not summarily executing all homosexuals
  • trying to remove to separation between Church and state
  • claiming that pollution and destruction of the environment is not only good, but ordered by God to bring about the second coming
  • claiming that launching nuclear weapons is good because it will destroy the earth and bring about the 2nd coming
  • trying to kill doctors who perform abortions
  • trying to drive established science out of the science classes of OTHER PEOPLES CHILDREN in a SECULAR schoolroom
  • claiming that condoms are immoral and should be made illegal
  • desperate for a holy war with the Muslims
  • willing NOT ONLY to believe biblical or other scriptural myths with no basis in scientific fact (i.e., no evidence), but to want to force EVERYONE ELSE to believe it as well. Maybe by force if necessary

And so on and so forth. Does that make the picture any clearer for you?--Filll 21:02, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speaking of myths

Why is there no article for Joshua's Long Day?--Filll 21:34, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Housing for underprivilidged

Good day,

My name is Joana Kietzmann from Strand, Western Cape, I'm writing on behalf of Ms Elizabeth Koopman who is in her 60's.

She is currently living in a room on the property of the Scouts Hall in Strand, however, she has been given notice to vacate the premises by end February 2007. Ms Koopman is currently waiting for some sort of housing project to complete but there has been more talk than progress.

I would like to discuss this matter with Hellen Zille as I feel comfortable with her and trust her tremendously. I'm deeply concerned about the wellbeing of Ms Koopman. Please if I may have her Tel No or email address. My contact No is 073 331 7549, I wait in anticipation for your reply.

Thank you
