Adolf
Gender: Male
Origin: German
Meaning: "Noble wolf"

Adolf, or Adolph, was a popular given name, especially in the German-speaking countries and in Scandinavia, but is rarely given today because of the association with Adolf Hitler. It derived from the Old High German Athalwolf, a composition of athal, or adal, meaning noble, and wolf; in sequence, making Adolf another portmanteau. Compare Rudolf.
