Adogawa (安曇川町; -cho) is a town located in the former Takashima District, Shiga, Japan.
As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 14,245 and a density of 293.89 persons per km². The total area was 48.47 km².
The town was dissolved upon the formation of a new city on Jan. 1, 2005 called Takashima with the merging of Adogawa, Imazu, Kutsuki, Makino, Shinasahi, and Takashima towns.
Adogawa-cho is one of the more densely populated towns in Takashima city. There are many retail stores, including two electronic stores, a medium-sized supermarket, a pizza store, five convenience stores, and an Italian restaraunt. Most of these are situated around the [JR] station.
Adogawa is well known for its fan ribs (the wooden part that comprises the skeleton of traditional Japanese fans), and it is said that roughly 90% of fan ribs made in Japan come from Takashima-city, with most of the production taking place in Adogawa-cho.
In Adogawa, there is one prefectural high school, one junior high school, and five elementary schools. There are plans to create a new prefectural middle school within Adogawa High School by 2008.
