Adelaide Plains Football League

The Adelaide Plains Football League (APFL) is an Australian rules football competition based in the Adelaide Plains region immediately north of Adelaide, South Australia. It is an affiliated member of the South Australian National Football League. In 2006 Hummocks/Watchman Football Club were premiers, defeating Balaklava Football Club.[1]

The Adelaide Plains Football Association (as the league was originally named) was formed in 1904, with founding clubs Avon, Dublin, Grace Plains, Korunye and Mallala. Like many country leagues, the composition of the league changed many times with the ebb and flow of rural populations.

In 1964 Dublin and Long Plains merged to form United Football Club. Watchman-Auburn and Hummocks United merged to form Hummocks-Watchman Football Club in 1985, and in 1996 Hummocks-Watchman and Port Wakefield merged to form Hummocks-Watchman Eagles Football Club.
