She worked in numerous musical shows and also as an actress in different theaters and movies. In 1925 she makes her first tango recordings as a soloist with the Orchestra of Osvaldo Fresedo for Victor Records.

[edit] Personal life

She became very famous as the singer of Francisco Canaro with whom she had a turbulent romantic relationship. During this period she dedicated her entire effort to tango as a singer producing more than 100 recordings.

She was a Mezzo-Soprano which was an unusual register for tango singers at the time who generally had a very sharp voice.

[edit] Seclusion

In 1942 she suddenly withdrew from public life, remained isolated in her house avoiding all contact with the external world. She occasionally left the house to go to mass all dressed in black, the face covered by a net or by sunglasses, wearing a white turban and white gloves.

With this attire she entered and left church on her knees in 1942 She was only 37 years old. The cause of all this is a mystery... she never talked about it. Many have argued that love disappointments with Canaro could have been an important element.

After a while she became a "tertiary nun" and entered an isolated convent in the hills of Cordoba where she lived as a pauper by her own volition (a small cell, little furniture, frugal meals) till she was transferred at an advanced age to a retirement home due to health reasons.
