Acronis True Image
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Acronis True Image is a disk imaging application for PCs, sold by Acronis. Both home and corporate products are available, with native support for the capture of 'live' images from within Microsoft Windows or Linux. Offline backups are also available from the bootable media: actual operating system used for bootable version is Linux, however support for WinPE and BartPE is now offered as well. File systems used by most operating systems can be imaged by disk partition, offering the ability to restore a system to a predefined state quite efficiently, while also offering more granular control with individual file recovery.
The utility can recognize the most common types of Windows and Linux file systems, but it can also backup and restore a file system that it does not recognize by doing a raw sector copy. According to the program's documentation, if it needs to do a raw sector copy there will be some limitations: it cannot do things like compress, resize, incremental backups, or selective restores if it does not recognize the file system. So for other file systems only full backup and full restore are available, and when restoring to a new drive the restored partition will need to be exactly the same size as it was on the failed drive.
