Acorn Stakes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Acorn Stakes is a Grade I race at Belmont Park for three-year-old fillies. In its 76th Running for 2007, it is raced for a purse of $250,000. The Acorn is run at one mile on the main dirt track.

Many popular proposals call for the inclusion of the Acorn in the Triple Tiara of Thoroughbred Racing. It was formerly included in that series but was replaced by the Alabama Stakes. It's raced on the same day as the Belmont Stakes.

Sky Beauty won this race in 1993, Davona Dale in 1979, Ruffian won it in 1975, Chris Evert in 1974, Susan's Girl in 1972, Shuvee in 1969, Cicada in 1962, Bowl of Flowers in 1961, Gallorette in 1945, Twilight Tear in 1944, and Top Flight in 1932.
