[edit] Information

The Death's head Hawk Moth is a Sphingid moth found in India. It is very fond of honey and bee keepers have reported to have found dead moths in their hives as a result of bee stings.

Death's Head Hawk Moths can mimic the scent of bees so that they can enter a hive unharmed to get honey. Their tongue, which is stout and very strong, enables them to pierce the wax cells of the beehive and suck the honey out.

The moth has many superstitions regarding it. It was once believed that if seen, it bring death or grave misfortune.

[edit] Caterpillar

The caterpillar ranges from yellow to green or brown. It is large and feeds on potato and other plants of the nightshade family.

[edit] Distrubution

Distribution is from Mediterranean, North Africa and migrates into Europe and has been known as a rare vagrant to Britain
