Whenever a vandal (anonymous IP or logged-in) is blocked, all users using that particular IP address are also "autoblocked", even logged-in users. That's the way the Wikipedia software works. There's no way to turn off autoblocking and no way to give immunity from autoblocking to established users with good reputations, and no way of knowing in advance what ISP or region any particular user is editing from or how many other users would be affected by an autoblock. Autoblocking is a particular problem for AOL users, users at some universities, and users in some Middle Eastern countries that force multiple users to go through the same proxy IP addresses, putting vandals and good users on the same IP address.

There were a lot of vandalism edits from this IP address, culminating in "SQUIDWARD" vandalism, see Special:Contributions/212.138.47.14. I'll unblock, but there's no way to guarantee that the problem or blocking won't recur some time in the future. -- Curps 06:56, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

I see. I guess I'll have to get used to it then. Thanks for the heads up.AceWhatever 16:17, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
