[edit] Governance
The ASU is governed by the SRC, although day to day workings of the Union are handled by the Executive Board. Representatives for the SRC, Executive Board, and the Chair's Office are elected/appointed between February and March each year, with the exception of Frosh Representative and Councilor-at-Large (x3), which are filled during the September by-election.
[edit] The SRC
The Students' Represenative Council (SRC) is the governing body of the Acadia Students' Union. As such it the legislative authority of the organization and its powers are governed by the ASU Constitution and By-Laws. The SRC is made up of 19 elected and appointed members from areas of the Acadia Community.
[edit] The Chair
The Chair's office consists of the Chairperson of the SRC, the Deputy Chairperson, and the Administrative Assistant. The Chair's office and more specifically the Chairperson, is responsible for presiding over all meetings of the SRC, interpreting the constitution, and ensure that all elections are carried out in a manner that is consistent with the Constitution and By-Laws. The Chairperson also chairs the Review Board, which handles constitutional issues within the Union.
[edit] The Executive Board
In the 2005-2006 Academic Year, the SRC passed a resolution reducing the executive from 6 people to 5 people. The 5 positions are President, Vice President Student Affairs (VPSA), Vice President Campus Life (VPCL), Vice President Academic (VPA), and Vice President Finance (VPF). President, VPSA, and VPCL are elected position that all students elect during the February General Election. VPA and VPF are appointed and ratified by the SRC, due to the technical nature of the positions.
[edit] 2007-2008 Executive
The 2007-2008 Executive, which will take office on May 1st 2007, is composed of Kyle Steele (President), Erin Benner (VPCL), Dimitri Tzekakis (VPSA), Colin Hoult (VPA), and Andrew McLeod (VPF). All are new members to the executive with the exception of Erin Benner, who is returning for her second term as VPCL.
[edit] Student Association Memberships
The ASU is an active member of CASA and ANSSA.
The Canadian Federation of Students also includes them on their membership roster, but this is disputed by the Union itself. [1]
