[edit] Power comparisons?
I don't think your comparisons of the power of Solars and the other types of exalted are justified. The Lunars can be incredibly effective with their deadly beastman transformations and the sidereal high level martial arts are some of the most powerful abilities published outside of sorcery. It could be argued that the sidereal martial arts are high essence charms, something which has not been officially published for Solars, and that the Solar charms of that essence level would be equally powerful but for now it is left open.
Also I'm not quite sure about your Solars/Abyssals assessment. From what I've read the abyssals aren't neccessarily any more or less versatile than the solars. Aren't almost all of their charms 'evil' versions of solar charms anyways? They may not be the solar's equal in combat, either. I remember reading a exalted wiki page directly comparing a solar and an abyssal and it looked like the Solar had the edge in single combat, whereas the deathknights were more geared towards mass slaughter of lesser opponents. This would make sense, as it makes them more effecient in creating and expanding shadowlands. I'll try to find the article again and link it. - KublaChaos
- I don't have a problem if you change the Solar vs. Abyssal comparison; I admit I was splitting hairs. However, I think the Solar vs. Lunar-Sidereal-Terrestrial comparison should stay, although the wording might be changed from "clearly outrank" to "usually outrank another Exalted of equal experience." The core book flatly says, "The Solar Exalted are the mightiest of the Exalted" (p. 22). I think we should assume that assertion is correct, even though the authors of the fatsplats said "Oh, yeah?" and gave over-powered Charms (Zed Pounds You in the Ass Technique) to the other types of Exalted. I won't be surprised if a new book is released soon that completely revises all Solar Charms to re-assert their supremacy.
Bodhisattvaspath 19:37, 11 February 2007 (UTC): The developers of Exalted have stated that Abyssals are corrupted Solar essences that have been tainted by the power of the Neverborn and now serve their cause. Through role-playing the two Exalts against each other (Solars vs. Abyssals), the power levels do work out to an equivalence, although the Abyssals are geared toward killing their opponents more than Solars, while Solars are geared toward being pretty good at just about anything they do. This is not to say that other Exalt types do not have their own niche in this game. In terms of your own preference for mechanics and interpretation of the uses for various Charms and abilities, you may find your gaming experience reflecting that Solars and Abyssals are not equivalent. I, for one, author these pages according to information gleaned from the books and the developers, not from my own opinions or personal experiences.
[edit] Deathlords
The Deathlords are actualy powerful ghosts, not Abyssal Exalted.
They've been around for quite some time (centuries in fact, since soon after the Usurpation), whereas in the game, Abyssal Exalted have only been around for five years.
The Deathlords are the ghosts of Solar exalted, sure, but that's not the same thing as an Abyssal. For one thing, Abyssals are actually living, not yet dead.
Bodhisattvaspath 19:32, 11 February 2007 (UTC): I have given the thought to split the Deathlords off from the Abyssal Exalted article many times, but I don't currently feel that there is enough information there to justify so doing. Maybe if some other editors were willing to expand on the information present, that would make the move seem more logical.
