Wikipedia talk:Abuse reports/Boilerplate messages

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[edit] Purpose

The reason that this template exists is to provide a standard message to use in the event that an IP is permanently or temporarily blocked following contact with a sysadmin. Copy and paste it into the text box when you block the IP, substituting the redlink with the link to the investigation page. Snoutwood (talk) 16:25, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Now that I've moved the page and added another bit, I guess that its purpose is to house abuse report-related boilerplate messages so that it's easy to find all this stuff. Snoutwood (tóg) 20:19, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
It is INDEED much easier to navigate around this. --Siva1979Talk to me 20:30, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Block template

I think there should be an actual template to post at the top of the talk and userpage that says the IP has been blocked, in addition to the fuller message you've created. The one used on User talk:216.120.176.2 should be fine.

The message is generally fine, except "one of the users found on the above page" is rather vague. It should probably specifically something like "one of the administrators on this (linked) list" with the link pointing to the list of admins signed up to help with abuse reports. Good point. I've simplified it so that it just says to contact the blocking admin. How's that look? For the template on the blocked IP's talk page, we have Essjay's {{whois}}. Snoutwood (tóg) 23:15, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
