Absynthesis

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Absynthesis is the alternative electronica project from contemporary sound artist Levon Louis.

Hailed by The Austin Chronicle as a “driving force" and up for public music awards in Houston including “Best DJ”, “Best Electronica”, and “Keyboardist of the Year”, in addition to sharing a BAFTA (British Academy Award) nomination with Eutechnyx-UK for his work in games and film. Louis is the only permanent member of Absynthesis, as he composes all music and plays most of the instruments himself in addition to writing and performing the lyrics for any songs that feature full vocal, or virtual vocal elements. Absynthesis music is praised by fans for bridging the gap between nostalgia and cutting edge, being highly danceable, and exploring universal themes that make it easy to connect with emotionally.

In addition to studio production, Levon Louis puts on totally live performances of his electronic beats, setting up with an array of machines to deliver a continuous mix of peak-time dance floor material. The beats are rolled out one element at a time, with every sound at the artist's complete control and viciously manipulated on the spot, so his live music is never heard the same way twice. This highly improvisational performance styling leaves a lasting impression. In his home state of Texas Louis has long been credited with being a pioneering figure in the first generation of producer-artists to deliver "live p.a." performances that fuse traditional live musicianship with technical mixing.

Representing a next-generation take on Electronica and resonating with a growing legion of fans worldwide Absynthesis music brings in classic floor-banging electronic styles of techno, trance, industrial, synth-pop, and electro one step beyond by infusing punk and new-wave elements. The project's debut single, "Crawl", was first released as a free download on the artist's MySpace.com profile, and soonafter appeared on the soundtrack to Project Gotham Racing III for the Xbox 360 alongside Aphex Twin, Skinny Puppy, New Order, Covenant, and The Chemical Brothers. A self-titled debut album is scheduled for release in 2006 that will feature several tracks for cyber-clubbing alongside thoughtful songs addressing "everyday life, and everyday love in the fast-paced digital age..."
