Abraham Orlando Núñez [NOO-nyez] (born on March 16, 1976 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a Dominican baseball player in the Major League. He primarily plays third base, but is capable of playing all four infield positions. He is a nine-year veteran and is currently playing with the Philadelphia Phillies. He has a career batting average of .244. He played 630 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1996-2004. Núñez is a switch hitter and throws right handed. He joined the St. Louis Cardinals in 2005, and with a late season injury to third baseman Scott Rolen near the end of 2005, Núñez saw his playing time increase, becoming the regular everyday starter at third base for the rest of the season and the playoffs. After the 2005 season, he signed with the Phillies as free agent.
