Abhayanand is a 1977 batch IPS officer. He is currently serving as Additional Director General of Police in the Bihar Government. He has been in the limelight for speedy trials in the hitherto lawless state of Bihar. Abhayanand did his schooling from St.Xaviers Patna and St. Michael's High School, Patna. He graduated in Physics(hons.) at the top of his class from Science College,Patna. His wife Dr. Nutan Anand is a gynaecologist working in Hajipur.

Abhayanand along with Anand Kumar started Super 30, a free tutorial to coach 30 bright youngsters from underprivileged families of rural Bihar for the IIT entrance test.
