Abersychan Comprehensive School

Abersychan Comprehensive School (Welsh: Ysgol Gyfun Abersychan) is a state-funded and non-selective comprehensive school in the Pontypool suburb of Abersychan, Wales.
The school prides itself on being a happy, caring and disciplined school with a committed staff who work hard to ensure that pupils of all abilities and interests achieve their potential in a safe, supportive and learning environment. The school's last inspection showed many positive results reflecting the hard work of staff and students alike.
In 2006 work will begin on a new vocational building which will include a health and wellbeing fitness suite, modern changing facilities, an ICT classroom, a learning resource base and a modern languages suite. The new building will also house a cafeteria providing meals and snacks of the highest quality. This state-of-the art facility will enable the school to broaden its curriculum provision to include more vocational opportunities and provide the pupils with the latest Information and Communication Technology resources to prepare them for life in the 21st century.
Abersychan Special Learning Centre is the only secondary Special Learning Centre in Torfaen. This year 2006 the school has 53 pupils, each of which has a statement of Special Needs for Moderate learning Difficulties. Most have associated emotional, behavioural, physical and medical problems.
