Abel Joseph

Abel Joseph, was born on January 4, 1974, in Montréal, Québec, Canada.

He is the oldest child of Eugene Joseph and Marie Rose Leonce's three children. He attended high school at College Francais where he was a basketball player, averaging 27 points and 12 rebounds per game during the 1991-92 basketball season. He led the Collège Français to a 25-5 record.

He was heavily recruited by Olga Hrycak, the former head coach of the Dawson College Blues AAA men's basketball team (before Wayne Yearwood). While at Dawson College Joseph stood 6 feet 8 in. tall, and weighed 210 lbs. With his massive size, athletic ability, and blue-chip basketball skills, he led Dawson College to a 24-5 record and advanced them to the provincial championship game, in the 1992-93 season. That year he earned All-Canadian honours, averaging 15 points, 8 rebounds and 7 blocked shots per game. That year he shot a league best 60.8% from the field, and was voted team MVP and also received the most improved player award. He was a member of the provincial Québec team that won gold in basketball at the 1993 Canada games.
