Abe Lyttleton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Police Constable Abe Lyttleton was a short-term character in the ITV police drama The Bill back in the early days. He was played by Ronnie Cush.

Abe Lyttleton was introduced as the first black police officer ever to grace Sun Hill. Upon arriving, there was mention that it was his third posting in only three and a half years, which was put down to him having trouble settling in as a "minority within a minority." Most of the relief welcomed him, however he was constantly given a hard time by fellow newcomer PC Pete Muswell, whom believed that it was a mistake to include ethnic minorities in the met. During their time at Sun Hill, Lyttleton was the butt of many of Muswell's racial attacks on him, whose nicknames for the minority included "Snowball" and "Paleface". Lyttleton rose above his racial taunts on many occasions, and in the end he even went on to win Muswell's gruding respect. He didn't last much longer at Sun Hill however, and left after just a 3 month stint.
