[edit] Synopsis

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Phoebe inadvertently opens a tunnel in time by repeatedly saving the life of her new boyfriend Miles, who has been preordained to die. The time tunnel provides a pathway for a warlock from the future named Bacarra to steal the Book of Shadows. He betrays Cole and uses its power to kill Phoebe and Paige, leaving Piper and Leo to reverse the chain of death before events become final.

[edit] Enemies

  • Bacarra: a low-powered warlock at present, he is destined to become a powerful advisor to Cole in the future. Cole, as The Source, sends him back in time to stop Phoebe's death from happening in the present.

[edit] Spells

  • To Turn Bacarra Into Stone: We call upon Medusa's bones. Turn their flesh into stone.
  • To Disempower a Witch: A human heart and a red ribbon, one per witch, is needed. Before the passing of this hour, take away all of their power.

[edit] Trivia

  • The title of this episode is a play on words to the phrase a stitch in time saves nine.
  • The plot of this episode is very similar to the plot for the "Final Destination" movies, in which a person has a premonition about a group of people's impending deaths and thwarts the outcome, leading Death to come after them again.
  • The spell the two Baccaras used to disempower a witch, which needed a fresh human heart, was previously used by the evil witch Tuatha in season two's episode That Old Black Magic. However, in that episode it is said that a fresh heart is needed per witch. Bacarra only used one heart in this episode to take away all the Charmed One's powers. In the episode A Knight to Remember, Piper beat up a potion which was used to disempower the Evil Enchantress, which apparently they did not include in the Book of Shodows.
  • In the episode Blinded by the Whitelighter Leo is shown to physically sense when he loses one of his charges. We do not see him display this ability in this epside when phoebe and paige die, however since he orbs in right after we know that he must have felt it.
  • Miles's apartment elevator is the same one shown in Cole's building.
  • This storyline would be used again in the show's series finale, Forever Charmed.
  • When Bacarra disempowers the Charmed Ones, Paige looses her ability to orb. This is a continuity error because the spell is to disempower a witch, and Paige's orbing comes from her whitelighter side as indicated in The Power of Three Blondes. UPDATE: If looking carefully, we see Paige doesn't actually attempt to orb, she just assumes she can't. Signs of her trying to orb are typically closing her eyes and/or trembling, which she didn't do. It's entirely possible she still could orb, though couldn't telekineticly orb as that intertwines with her witch power.
  • In the moment that Bacarra steals the Book of Shadows, Paige could easily take it back by calling for it; the same thing could also have been done in the episode The Power of Three Blondes. UPDATE: This could not have been done in that episode because when the girls powers are being taken then, we see Piper try to use her powers but unable to, this would also have happened to Paige.
  • When Piper goes back in time to save Phoebe and Paige, you can see Phoebe running into Miles workplace wearing brown leather high heels. When she comes back out and tells Piper he left, and they begin running, Phoebe is now wearing Ugg Boots. Then when they get in the alleyway after Miles was shot, Phoebe is back to wearing the brown leather high heels.
