A Show of Hands is a live album by Canadian rock band Rush, released in 1989 (see 1989 in music). The album was recorded in Birmingham, New Orleans, Phoenix, and San Diego during the 1988 Hold Your Fire tour as well as in the Meadowlands (East Rutherford, NJ) during the 1986 Power Windows tour.

The material on the albums focuses primarily on the band's previous four albums (Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire); the only songs not from these albums are "Witch Hunt" and "Closer to the Heart." Also, "The Rhythm Method" is an edited drum solo by Neil Peart, and not a studio release.

The album's title comes from a lyric in the band's song Prime Mover; "alternating currents force a show of hands."

The album was re-released in a digitally remastered CD on July 1, 1997.

[edit] Remaster Details

A remaster was issued in 1997.

  • The tray has a picture of three fingerprints, light blue, pink, and lime green (left to right) with THE RUSH REMASTERS printed in all caps just to the left. All remasters from Moving Pictures to A Show of Hands are like this. This is just like the cover art of Retrospective II.
  • Includes all of the artwork that came with the original album.
