A Night at the Katz Motel is the very first episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog after the pilot episode, The Chicken from Outer Space. It introduces the arch-villain Katz. It is also one of the most favourited episodes of Courage.

Arriving at a motel after a vacation, Eustace, Muriel and Courage spend the night there, hosted by a strange cat named Katz. Courage is forced to stay outside while Katz plots to feed the family to his pet spiders. Eustace is captured by the spiders while Muriel battles with them in the bathroom. Courage flees from them to rescue Eustace from the spiders' web. He confronts Katz who challenges him to a game of handball. Katz wins without trying and proceeds to feed Courage to one of his spiders, when he is defeated by Muriel, who hits him with a rolling pin. The three of them head on home.

  • This is the first appearance of Courage's arch-enemy Katz, as well as a lot of Katz themes. The creepy Katz music, Katz disguising himself as a charming host and Katz challenging Courage to a final showdown before he kills him are among them.
  • This is the first episode not set on the Bagge farm. The first episode set on the Bagge farm after the pilot is episode 3, The Shadow of Courage.
  • The Chicken from Outer Space makes a brief cameo.
  • John R. Dilworth is on the guest list.
  • Muriel refers to Eustace as Grandpa.
  • The room they stay in is room 666 1/2. 666 is a number typically associated with Satan; but the 1/2 was probably added for a somewhat comical effect.
