A Hundred Days Off (2002) |
1992-2002 (2003) |
A Hundred Days Off is a 2002 (see 2002 in music) album by Underworld. The album produced two UK Chart Entries: Two Months Off, which reached no. 12 and Dinosaur Adventure 3D, which reached no. 34. This was the first album since Darren Emerson's departure from the group in 2001. The album is not a huge stylistic makeover, though, as the focus is still trance, albeit with less heavy beats than on Beaucoup Fish, their previous album. This allows further musical exploration than on Beaucoup Fish, as there's less concentrated on aggressive beats for dancing. This is seen on tracks like "Twist" (which features piano) "Sola Sistim" (with has a more lounge music sensibility than on most Underworld songs) and "Ballet Lane." The video for "Two Months Off," which received extensive airplay in Europe, features Karl Hyde dancing in the rain.
[edit] Sound
As with any Underworld album, the songs are generally long (over five minutes in length) and full of synthesizers, drum machines and stream-of-consciousness poetry sung/spoken over the beats. This albums is less aggressive than their previous album, Beaucoup Fish, often more open to ambient music and lounge music aesthetics than solely trance music.
