Criminal Macabre: A Cal McDonald Mystery

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Criminal Macabre: A Cal McDonald Mystery is an ongoing comic book series created in 2003 by Steve Niles (writer) and Ben Templesmith (artist), and published by IDW and later Dark Horse Comics.

The series' storylines are restarted with the storyline's title taking over as "#1", regardless of the actual number of the series. For example, issue 17 starts the "Two Dead Eyes" storyline, which is part one, so it is called "Criminal Macabre: a Cal McDonald Mystery-Two Dead Eyes" #1.

Cal himself is sort of a Hellblazer/Constantine paranormal detective. He takes illicit drugs, and befriends a network of ghouls to assist him in his cases. Policemen do not really care to be involved with Cal.

In addition to the Criminal Macabre line, there was an unrelated series starring Cal, as well. Also, Niles has started writing short novels starring Cal, under the title "Criminal Macabre: Savage Casebook". The first is Savage Membrane. These are published by IDW.

So far there are three trade paperbacks, two for Criminal Macabre and one for the mini series Last Train to Deadsville".

MGM has purchased the rights to produce a Cal McDonald film.
