[edit] Synopsis

The crew of Moya is captured by two Nebari, who "mind cleanse" them—they have had all anger, negative, or violent impulses removed from their minds by the Nebari who have been hunting for Chiana. The cleansing involves a drug-delivering implant, and will last as long as the drug is in their system. Chiana is not cleansed, however, because she is being saved for a permanent cleansing on Nebari Prime, and Pilot was not cleansed but has a control collar that will kill him if he starbursts.

Crichton is quickly able to overcome the effects of the cleansing due to the Scorpius chip in his brain, and he seeks out Rygel, who has also overcome the cleansing due to his fast metabolism. They discover that one of the two Nebari is actually working for the Nebari resistance. He delivers a video chip to Chiana from her brother Nerri who, it is revealed, is one of the leaders of the Nebari resistance. Chiana is overjoyed, as she had thought Nerri was dead. He'd wanted her to think that so she would be in less danger. Chiana further reveals that she and Nerri had been allowed to leave Nebari Prime as part of a secret plan for power by the Nebari leaders--they infected Nerri and Chiana with a sexually transmitted, dormant disease, that the Nebari will activate at some point in order to weaken opponents and cause chaos. Chiana and Nerri were cured of carrying the disease.

Working together, John, Chiana, and Rygel are able to overpower and kill the Nebari who has taken over the ship. Chiana wants to join Nerri, but he has given strict orders that she is not to know where he is. John comforts Chiana as she cries over this new rejection by her brother.

[edit] Production Notes

  • This is the first episode in which John refers to his pulse pistol as "Winona". He does so at the beginning of the episode when he complains that misfired, not coincidentally at the same time that Aeryn has been captured and cleansed.
