[edit] License tagging for Image:Giani Gurdit Singh.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Giani Gurdit Singh.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 05:05, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Internal links

As a general rule, internal links should only be used once per article. You can see the guideline at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links). Excessive links can be distracting and make the article difficult to read. A link should only be used more than once if it has been a very long time since the last place it was used, such as in the case of an extremely long article. Otherwise, once is sufficient. Kafziel Talk 19:36, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

I was thinking the same. Then don't know what made me add the links. I agree that too many internal links could be distracting. Thanks for pointing out, the internal link at the first occurrence of the word should be ok. A. S. AulakhTalk 19:39, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A belated welcome

Since nobody has officially welcomed you yet, I thought I would give you some links you might find helpful as you edit Wikipedia.

Also, if you ever want to practice writing an article from scratch, you can click this link: User:A. S. Aulakh/sandbox. (The link will turn blue after your first edit to the page.) You can also copy and paste an article there to experiment with text or image syntax. (Just remember to remove the categories from any article you paste there.)

Anyway, I hope you find these links useful. Good luck, and happy editing! Kafziel Talk 19:57, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Kafziel, thanks for the links and welcome message. I look forward to find more time and contribute on WP. A. S. AulakhTalk 20:18, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Photo

Yea, they seem like sikhs, but appearances can be deceptive. Anyways, the original author/photographer says muslim soldiers and since most of Mr. Bremner's photos were taken in present day Pakistan, it could be possible that it was a mix of Indian and Pakistani soldiers. Interestingly, this is the ONLY photo where he says that the posing solders were all muslims and given written proof, we at Wikipedia have to go with what the author says, unless there is evidence to the contrary from a good source. Hope I've clarified this. Thanks. Idleguy 13:16, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I am still doubtful as majority of the soldiers in that picture are appearing Sikhs to me and I have decent understanding of Sikh soldiers. Anyway, I will try to find some evidence in favor of or against my doubt and let you know. It might be difficult though. A. S. AulakhTalk 06:25, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Sunny deol.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Sunny deol.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Panjabi wikipedia

Praji, space for a wikipedia in Panjabi is allocated here. I have recently added input system in Gurmukhi. But there aren't any serious editors there. It would be great if you joined the effort. Thank you.--Eukesh 14:17, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
